Thursday, April 5, 2018 I attended a funeral for a woman who was important to me and the Rippey United Methodist congregation I attend. Doris Brown was nearly 90 when she died. I grew up the second child of Bob and Mary Hanaman, on Argall Avenue in Beloit, Wisconsin. My sister, Marianne, was 3.5 years older than myself. Mayor Dan Brubaker was recently notified by the Iowa Department of Transportation that the evergreen trees at the north end of Rippey were to be cut down. The Highway 144 diagonal which runs from Southeast to Northwest through Rippey intersects with Greene County Road P46 from the North. The City of Rippey hit the “jackpot” at the Wild Rose Casino on Tuesday evening but they were not gambling. Rather, they were the big winner in the competitive grant competition receiving $80,000 to re-purpose the Rippey School gymnasium into a fire station.
