Summer Reading is off to a good start. The kids have been working on their handouts, do at home projects, and we have been making projects here at the Library on Mondays and Fridays. Sarah Pearson, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea are visiting with Dale and Nancy Hanaman. The children will be staying with their grandparents before returning with their parents later, after the annual family reunion.
In the corner is a old garden hoe. The stories it could recall if it could talk. It is long since retired from use. The well polished handle outlasted many metal heads and was used by four generations to execute unwanted weeds from the fields. Nancy Hanaman from Rippey, vice-president of the Greene County Historical Society, served homemade ice cream in the historical building at the Greene County Fair in Jefferson. They hosted a free ice cream social July 14th and 15th. There’s nothing like homemade ice cream on a hot Iowa day at the fair!
Thanks to all who gathered for the 3rd Annual Community Picnic at Osborne Park sponsored by the Rippey Lions Club on July 8th. Community members along with Lions Club folks enjoyed hot dogs, chips, cookies, and beverages, plus an opportunity to meet new people. Also, it was a great time for children to enjoy the park.
