Summer Reading Program at the Library

Share

Summer Reading is off to a good start. The kids have been working on their handouts, do at home projects, and we have been making projects here at the Library on Mondays and Fridays.
We have made things such as, a Rube Goldberg machine, explaining the continuance of an item in constant motion. They have also created their own town, using boxes. The kids have really enjoyed this recycling project as they learn how to “Build a Better World.” Their instructions were to make a town, name it, and include several different public buildings/service stations of their choosing. They also needed to include a historic marker of their choice, an attraction for tourists, and a park. They did all of this and more! They named their town “Heartwood.”
We have also learned about the importance of bees and pollination. Caring for the environment and animals around us is something that we are learning about. We have made Bird feeders from wood sticks, and bird cakes from peanut butter and birdseed. On Monday the 31st, Dan Towers from the Greene County DNR will be here for a program about the animals in Greene County and caring for our environment. We have also made succulent planters from old books, the kids really liked the recycling aspect of that project. Our final pizza/ice cream party will be on August 7th. This is when we will give out prizes.
