Alice Irene Drake Grow, third daughter of John and Sadie (Flansburg) Drake, was born October 3, 1908 in Greene County, near Rippey, Iowa and passed away on Dec. 11, 2006.
Services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006 at Irene Barbara Lunde Memorial Chapel at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.
She resided in Greene county most of her life. She attended country schools and then Rippey Consolidated School where she graduated in 1926.
On February 1, 1927, Alice was united in marriage to Glen F. Grow in t he home of her parents, and to this union three children were born.
Alice was a member of Rippey United Methodist Church; Past Oracle of Royal Neighbors of America; Past Noble Grand of Alice Blue Rebekahs; Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star; Past President of Service Star Legion; Past State President of Iowa Chapter of Service Star Legion; and charter member of Greene County Historical Society. She always enjoyed her family, working on History and Genealogy books and was interested in making quilts, crocheting and other craft work. Alice worked at the Rippey School as secretary for 15 years.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Glen; three sisters: Hazel Drake, Capitola Thompson, and Ruth Thompson; and one brother: Lavern Drake.
She is survived by two daughters: Doris Brown and husband Gerald of Rippey, Iowa; Cleo Ison and husband Don of Venice, Florida; one son Donald Grow and wife JoAnne of Moultrie, Georgia; ten grandchildren:
Rick and Sue Brown of Rippey; Ron and Kathy Brown of Rippey; Debbie Grow Miller and Mark of Perry; Kevin Grow of Perry; Kathy Grow Alex and husband Steve of Ottumwa, Iowa; Becky Grow Kinney of Urbandale, Iowa; Denise Grow Elston of Moultrie, Georgia; Brian Grow of Moultrie, Georgia; Barbara Ison Case and husband Gary of Cardington, Ohio; and David Ison and wife Julie of Powell, Ohio; 22 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Esther Grow, of the Rowley Home; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, including her roommate at Rowley, Marie Peters. The family extends a big, heartfelt thank you to Rowley Memorial Masonic Community for providing a lovely, comfortable, caring home for Mom’s last 21 years.
