A celebration of life funeral service was held Wednesday morning, April 14, at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson for Amy Sue Muir, 73, of rural Rippey.
Pastor Deb Parkison of the Rippey United Methodist Church officiated. Sue’s granddaughter Candice Muir sang, “Angel”, and son Terry Muir, sang, “The Lord’s Prayer. Jean Borgeson and Connie Neese sang “In The Garden”, and there was also congregational singing, “Happy Trails”, with Carson Griffith at the piano.
Honorary casket bearers were Sue’s caregivers, Janie Flinn, Nancy Tilford, Joleen Killeen, Grace Cozad and LaReen Fagg. Interment was in Rippey Cemetery.
Amy Sue Muir, daughter of Arthur Westre and Thelma Moore, was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Dows. She died April 10, 2010, at her home in rural Rippey after a courageous battle with a rare disease, PSP.
Sue graduated from Bagley High School. She met Dwight Muir at a dance at the Starline Ballroom in Carroll. They married Nov. 13, 1956, and were parents of four children, Teela, Terry, Todd and Julie. Sue and Dwight continued to enjoy dancing, including square dancing and the jitterbug.
She had a real talent in sewing and enjoyed making costumes for family and friends. Dwight especially remembers the Dalmatian dog costumes and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
sue was Dwight’s right hand on the farm. She assisted him with their large numbers of chickens, pigs, and Angus cattle, in addition to baling hay, driving trucks and tractors, and unloading corn and soybeans in bins. And while doing that, she raised her family, gardened, canned and loved cooking. She helped the family get throughout the tough times in the 1980’s.
She and Dwight owned Muir Embroidery and she was a very accomplished embroidery technician.
She was active with Dwight in the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Greene County Cattlemen, Iowa Associated Saddle Club, and had been honored as a Friend of Iowa Beef Expo. She was involved with her children’s school activities and served as 4-H leader for the Washington Winnerettes Girls’ 4-H Club, continuing her love of 4-H as a youth. She rode horses as a child and enjoyed traveling with her family to horse and cattle shows.
Sue enjoyed scrapbooking, crafts of all kinds, she adored her grandchildren, and was a second mom to a lot of kids growing up. Co-piloting Dwight’s Cessna 170 airplane was fun for her.
Sue was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and UMW, now known as the Rippey Ladies Aid. Her deep love of her church and the teaching there and from her mother has left her children with a great legacy. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Rippey and a avid member of the “Every Friday” morning hair club.
Her illness gave her the opportunity to build a caring, loving relationship with her caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dwight; daughters Teela Sadowsky (Jim) of Eagleville, MO, and Julie Montoya (Michael) of Novinger, MO; sons Terry of Waynesfield, OH, and Todd (Roxanne) of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Cooper and Mardee Sadowsky, Candace and Ali Muir, Bridget Johnson (Ian) and Tyler Muir and fiancee Natasha Sierra; sister Shari Reuvers of Corona, CA; brother Doug Westre (Barb) of Rio Linda, CA; brother-in-law Eugene (Iva Jo) of Rippey; sister-in-law Doris Muir of Des Moines; aunts and uncles Max and Barb Moore, Bud and June Moore, Walter and Marlys Moore, and Herb Moore; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many, friends.
