David Dwight Crumley was born March 29, 1931 in Des Moines to Dwight and Helen Crumley of Rippey, Iowa. He was raised in Rippey and graduated from Rippey High School in 1948. He attended Grinnell College, then transferred to the University of Iowa where he graduated with his B.S. in accounting. After earning his CPA, he was drafted into the Army where he served for two years. Upon his honorable discharge, David continued his education at the College of Law at the U of I. In 1960 he graduated from Law School having earned his J.D. and admittance to the Order of the Coif.

While at the University of Iowa, David fell in love twice; first with the Iowa Hawkeyes and then with Patricia Andresen of Graettinger, Iowa. Dave and Pat made plans to marry June 26, 1960 with the caveat that Dave first passed the Bar. Pat made sure Dave studied and they were united in marriage as planned.

In July of 1960 David joined with Maurice Stark to form the Stark & Crumley Law Firm (later Stark, Crumley, and Jacobs) and went on to practice law in Fort Dodge for 56 years.

A true musician, Dave delighted at singing and playing the piano. He sang with the First Presbyterian Church choir for all 50+ years he was a member and also sang with the Barbershop Harmony Brigade.

Sports also held a place in Dave’s heart. He was a “dyhard” Hawkeye fan as noted on his license plate, in addition to sharing his love for baseball, tennis, golf, and basketball with his family.

Dave modeled community service to his family through leadership in many organizations. Those included; the Iowa State Bar Association on the tax committee, President of the Lions Club, Board of Directors of the Rippey Savings Bank, Foundation Committee, Elder and served on other committees at First Presbyterian Church.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia; their children Mark (Rhonda) Crumley of Oakland, IA, J.D. of Las Vegas, NV, and Carolyn (Dennis) Kleen of Ankeny, IA; their grandchildren Alissa (Kyle Friason) Crumley of Bellevue, NE, Andrew Crumley of Aviano Air Base, Italy, and Joseph and Michael Kleen of Ankeny; and one great-grandchild Kelan Friason of Bellevue, NE; two brothers Phil (Ginna) Crumley of San Anselmo, CA and Roger (Janet) Crumley of Rancho Mirage, CA; as well as three nephews and two nieces of California.
