Funeral services were held Monday January 21, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas for Dennis Pierce, 67 on Spirit Lake. Dennis passed away Thursday, January 17, at his home in Spirit Lake. Eulogies was given at the service by Lee Riemersma and Bernie Saggau. He is survived by his wife Jan, (16627 Shore Line Dr., Spirit Lake, IA 51360), four children and their spouses, grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Pierce taught at YJB at Jamaica and came to East Greene in the late 60’s as a teacher and later served as high school principal. After leaving East Greene he became the Superintendent at Schlewig and in 1976 became the Superintendent at Pocahontas, retiring in 2002. Later he served as Interim Superintendent at Palmer-Pomeroy until his health declined. He also served two terms on the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Boys Athletic Union. Several former students and colleagues from East Greene attended the services.
