Marvin “Spud” Harris

Marvin (Spud) Harris, 80 passed away on January 10, 2009 at his home in Sheldahl.
Marvin was born July 4, 1928 to Gretchen and Clarence Harris in Rippey, Iowa. He graduated from Rippey High School in 1946 and married Patricia Gustafason on September 5, 1949.
Spud farmed, worked at John Deere, owned and operated Harris Service Station in Sheldahl, and worked at Ditch Witch of Iowa. Spud always had a passion for the town of Sheldahl. He was also known for his talents in welding, machinist work, and loved to invent. Even at the age of 80, he loved his Harley and rode with his family to Sturgis.
Spud had a deep love for his family and friends. He will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Pat; children, Raymond (Diana) Harris of Sheldahl, Jack (Margaret) Harris of Slater, Jill (Mike) Post of Nevada, grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Harris of Polk City, Nicole (Charlie) Husak of Polk City, Chad (Carrie) Harris of Grimes, Jodi Harris of Des Moines, Jennifer Harris of Coralville, Amber (Nate) Freel of Nevada, and Hollie (Andrew) Allen of Huxley; great-grandchildren, Own and Anna Harris, Emma Abby and Ella Husak, Ashton, Drew and Darcy Allen and a baby girl to be born in April; brothers, Theo (Ruth) of Farmer City, Illinois, Duane of Polk City; sister, LaVonne Carr of Perry and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and baby sister Belva, and brother, Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday January 12 at Slater Methodist Church. A celebration of Life Service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday January 13 at the Slater Methodist Church.
Brooks Funeral Care was in charge of services.
