Petunia Pig Goes To RC-L School

I read the Ogden Reporter where a black lab dog writes a column and [ also read the Scranton Journal where Clarence the Chicken is written about weekly 1 finally have an animal story! I received a call from my son Mare, who is the Middle School Principal at Rockwell City-Lytton After a brief chat he got around to the point of the phone call. “I need a pig up here.”

It seems that the Middle School took part in a fundraiser “Schools Walk for Diabetes” through the American Diabetes Association. If the middle school students could raise $1,300, the Principal would kiss a pig.

They raised $1500, so the pig kissing was on!

You never know what kind of phone calls you are going to get when you are just at home minding your own business! The only person I know who farrows pigs (without confinement) is Hugh Gannon. Hugh quickly agreed to “lend” me a pig for the afternoon. He didn’t even laugh!

Jean Borgeson brought a red wagon, a cat carrier, some towels and blankets and I found a lovely bow for Petunia. We also stopped and got a couple of balloons to tie to the wagon.

Marc met us outside the gym where he announced it was kind of an ugly pig. We assured him it had a charming personality!

One reason the middle school students were interested in a diabetes fundraiser is that two students have diabetes, so they got to roll the pig into the gym after the students had gathered.

As an added bonus, they got to put lipstick on the Principal! In the interest of picture taking, and to the delight of the students, the pig had to be kissed more than once.

Petunia was quickly loaded back in the crate and put in the car for the return trip to Rippey. Petunia went back in the pen, bow and all. Imagine the stories she had to tell the other pigs about her day at school!
