Dan Brubaker, Rippey community veteran, is pictured here with the Quilt of Valor from the Perry Piecemakers Quilts of Valor. Dan was unable to attend the ceremony recently held in Rippey, but received the quilt made for him on May 17.
He was drafted on March 23, 1971, and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received additional training at Fort Hood, Texas for truck driving and at Fort Campbell, Tennessee for armored vehicle training.
Dan was deployed to Vietnam as a machine gunner with a 30-caliber machine gun and patrol duty. He was discharged on April 19, 1972, with a rank of E4.
He returned home to work with his family in the field tiling business, of which he is now the owner. He is currently the Mayor of Rippey, having given 47 years to Rippey City government including the City Council.
He is an active member of the Kincaid Martin Legion Post 583.
He is married to his wife Claudia and has two children, and two grandchildren.
Perry area program coordinator Barb Hansen stated to Dan, “The Quilts of Valor Foundation unequivocally says thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation. Welcome home!!”
