Rippey Veteran Chris Roberts Awarded Quilt of Valor

The Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild awarded Quilts of Valor to 10 veterans at the Perry Elks Lodge on Sunday, November 16th. Christopher Roberts of Rippey is pictured here with the quilt created for him.

Chris is the son of the late Phillip Roberts and Toni Roberts, formerly of Rippey, now residing in Perry. He lives with his wife Brenda on the east side of the town of Rippey.

Chris received his basic training with the U.S. Army National Guard in March of 1987. He was a squad and platoon leader in basic training. He attended summer training camps at Camp Ripley in Minnesota and training at Camp Dodge, in Johnston, Iowa.

Chris’s duties with Company D 2nd Battalion were mechanized infantry. This means he drove Armored Personnel Carriers (APC’s) for transport and combat or infantry fighting vehicles for mobility and protection.

In 1991 he was on standby for active duty for Desert Storm the ground campaign but was not deployed after the Liberation of Kuwait. He was discharged in May of 1993 at the Specialist rank and was recognized as a squad and platoon leader.

For 33 years Chris has worked as a row crop farmer with no till practices. He also worked as maintenance management and safety at Tyson Foods. Chris is a member of the Rippey Lions Club.
