Great Music, Beautiful Weather, Pies Galore

Approximately 80 persons came to have a late summer meal at the Rippey Community Center on Saturday evening August 24th. The meal consisted of pulled pork sandwiches, chips, baked beans, bars, and a beverage.

Attendees were generous with their donations, as $611.00 was donated to advance the funding for Rippey’s sesquicentennial, which will be held August 1, 2020.

The Churdan Town and Country Band provided the musical entertainment for the evening under a blue sky dotted by white fluffy clouds with a slight southern breeze. A beautiful weather evening for the event.

The other entertainment of the evening was the pie auction. Stuart Cretsinger of Cretsinger Auction in Coon Rapids served as the auctioneer for 23 pies that had been creatively and lovingly provided by the excellent pie bakers of the Rippey community. A pecan pie made by Maralynn Rinker generated almost $100, as it was sold twice.

The pie auction generated $1,335.00 with the honor of the mostly costly pie being a coconut cream baked by Beverly Derry, which sold for a whopping $110.00 to David and Carol John.

Rolling Hills was the biggest donor of the evening purchasing $315.00 worth of delicious pies.

While the evening was designed to generate funds for fireworks to be displayed during the 150th birthday celebration of the town, an additional outcome was neighbors and friends who enjoyed visiting late into the evening long after the band concert ended.
