Rippey RAGBRAI Meeting Minutes – June 7

Those present: Jennifer Stagg, Dale Hanaman, Nancy Hanaman, Charity Kendall, Mary Hick, Kevin Hick, Yvette Bardole, Peter Bardole, Brad Rowe, Donnie Carpenter, Garry Higgins, Dan Brubaker, and Mary Weaver.

The meeting was called to order at 7 P.M. The minutes of the May 31 meeting were distributed and approved without objection.

A verbal financial report given by Dan appears to be in the black. 20 vendors will be providing a variety of foods, and once all vendor fees are collected, the expenses incurred with portable toilets, tents, and trash disposal will be covered. The Vendors will be asked to be in place by 8 30 AM on July 25.

The baseball commission will be serving brats, burgers, and beer adjacent to the pickleball court. The commission continues to seek volunteers. Kevin announced the Commission will be seeking a 5-day event liquor permit, rather than an annual permit.

The Lions and Fire Department will be serving on the north side of Main Street. They have identified several volunteers and believe they have adequate labor. It includes a person who will be wearing a pig costume. Dale queried a RAGBRAI staffer on Tuesday about things that should be done differently, and the response was Rippey is doing well.

The Methodist Church will be serving in the church as well as arranging for a tent in the parking area for riders. They too believe they have adequate volunteers.

Luke Farland, and Jordan Beem bands will be playing. The Iowa Beer Bus will be serving 26 different types of craft beers. This is on Main Street. Peter Bardole reported Farm Bureau will be having agricultural implements on their farm test plot on the route. Nancy Hanaman offered to assist Dale Thompson in telling the story of the Rippey Coal Mine.

Dan has identified the parking volunteers that will be needed.

It appears that we will be having over 50 volunteers. Mary will offer funds to Clark to secure 50 more shirts for a total of 100.

Ice was discussed as during the Tuesday RAGBRAI lunch, staff explained the RV people, as well as vendors will be needing ice. Donnie will be checking to see that the convenience store, Sparky’s, will have adequate supply.

During the Tuesday visit RAGBRAI staff interacted with Peter and Yvette regarding marketing. It was suggested to put up 4 times as many signs as you think is needed. Yvette will be working on Facebook pages highlighting the foods available in Rippey. Send her photos. yvebard@gmail.com. RAGBRAI staffers also encouraged hometown community projects to have a tip bucket. Jennifer suggested the firework fund for 2024 be highlighted as needing dollars.

Dan is working with Xenia water to create water bottle filling hydrants. Landus coop is doing giveaway, but not certain at this point. Dan will be putting up the flag on the Landus catwalk for the bikers to enjoy the day of the ride.

The $150.00 generated from the Tuesday lunch was divided. The Methodist Church received $50.00 for maid rites and buns; the Lion/Fire Department received $25.00 for utensils. The potato salad, veggie sticks, and water were donated by Mary and Dan.

The meeting was adjourned at 8 P.M.

The next meeting will be held July 7, at 7 00 P.M.
