What Do You Remember About Rippey?

The Rippey, Iowa, Sesquicentennial will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020.  If you have personal remembrances of Rippey, you are invited and encouraged to share those memorable stories.  Just send your remembrance via email and we’ll get it posted on the Rippey News Web site, as well as on Facebook sites of the Friends of Rippey and the Rippey Sesquicentennial.  You write down the anecdote or story—generally a page or two–and we’ll do the rest.

Phyllis McElheney Lepke is serving as our volunteer coordinator and stories may be sent to her at Rippey150@gmail.com.

“Rippey’s Favorite Recipes” was given to Mary Weaver by the niece of Bessie Murphy.  Bessie was a neighbor and good friend to the family over many years.  She lived with her Brother, Dee, and her Sister, Floy Brown, north of Rippey.  Bessie and her siblings were so hospitable. Whenever one stopped to purchase fresh eggs from her, or to drop sewing off to her sister, Floy, there was always a fresh angel food cake and iced tea made available.

That along with some conversation involving neighborhood concerns and sometimes a little hot news about a local event, made the stop enjoyable.

The attached photos show the names of the members of the American Legion Auxiliary, local advertisers, and some really good recipes.  Mary selected three that you might want to try for your upcoming Holiday Meals.

Mary says: “Lots of memories float to the mind by just reading the names of the contributors.  Thank you, former Rippey American Legion Auxiliary members.”
