Rippey Sesquicentennial Meeting

November 3, 2019

6:30 P.M.

Library Community Meeting Room

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by Dan. 12 persons were present.

The treasurer’s report was given by Mary. Donations in the past month have been $6,250.00; Friends of Rippey, Hastings Funeral Home, Comer Farms, Lynn Wilson, and a t shirt order from Jean Young Spradley.

$292.30 was generated from the Halloween event. Treasury is now at $11,569.40.

Expenses were paid from Friends of Rippey to Mel Murken $113.90 for paint, $35.00 to Mary for stamps.

In view of Clark’s donation of souvenir items, the proposed budget has been revised to $20,000 expected income, and previously unidentified porta potty expenses ($2500) have now been added.

Peter Johnson announced he is working to obtain the Unity Point helicopter to be here part of the time following the parade. It was determined to request from 11:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M. It will land at the ball park.

75 t shirts, 75 caps, and 50 plates have been donated by Clark’s company and will be sold at $10.00 each. They will be here by the Christmas Breakfast.

The group determined not to use “Chris Cakes” as we are uncertain if we can assure the minimum number required to have the pancake company come. The group rather determined to have the pancakes made and served from within the Rippey Community.

Nancy will work to determine the cost of the children’s tractor pull as it will be sponsored by Greene County Farm Bureau. It is planned to have the tractor pull, face painting, and bouncy houses at the skating rink portion of the park.

5 “I Remember Rippey” articles have been submitted and posted. They speak about the town, education, Halloween and general pranks, Christmas drawings, and the telephone operator “central”.

Cat has arranged for “Art on the Fly” to complete a painting class in the large community room. Registration will be required prior to the class.

The car show registration (since it is being done in conjunction with Grand Junction) will now begin at 1:30.

The wine and beer tent and dance will be in the Main Street area following the car show. Contact will be made with the Methodist Church leaders about an evening meal, opening of the time capsule, portions of the previously performed pageant and the performance by the community choir.

Mary will contact the Town and County Band, to see if they will be available to play at the ball park beginning at 8:00 P.M. prior to the fireworks.

Nancy reported she is working to secure 3-4 historic post cards to be reproduced and sold.

She has mailed save the date notifications to the Rippey Alumni, and will begin to work on East Greene Alumni and those with close connections to Rippey.

The Christmas Breakfast will be held on Saturday December 7 from 7-10:00, with Santa arriving at 9:00. Drawing for local prizes will be attempted, as was done in the 50’s and 60’s.

Breakfast casseroles were solicited and will be served with cinnamon rolls, sausage, fruit, and beverages, all for a free will donation at the Christmas Breakfast on December 7th. Those volunteering casseroles and times:

7:00 Nancy Hanaman

8:00 Marilyn Millard

8:30 Kat Butler

9:00 Maralynn Rinker

9:00 Bev Derry

Mary is entering a Rippey Sesquicentennial Christmas Tree in the Festival of Trees to bring attention to the town’s birthday party.

The next meeting will be held December 1, at 6:30 P.M.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
