Rippey residents and community members may observe Civil War re-enactor soldiers having lunch at the Rippey Community Center on Friday afternoon October 23 at 1:30pm. The Rippey Library Board is serving the meal.

They will be coming from the dedication of the nine feet, over 2-ton obelisk monument at the Greene County Courthouse, enroute to the dedication of a like monument at the Old Rippey Cemetery.

Many people passing through Rippey Main Street have seen the monument at the entry to the future Rippey Memorial Park. The monument reads.

VOLUNTEER INF IN THE CIVIL WAR

DISCOVER THEIR STORY AT THE OLD RIPPEY CEMETERY

This group is composed of Greene County Community School students who served as the Grand Marshall unit of the Rippey Fun Days parade. They bring to life the story of the thirty-two students and their two instructors who responded to President Lincoln’s call to volunteer for War of the Rebellion, also known as the Civil War. Ten students and one of the instructors died during their duties, others returned to provide leadership and guidance to the settlers and pioneers who were moving to Greene County. Many of the families continue to live in Greene County.

The dedication services are open to the public. Community members should consider this their invitation to attend.
