The weather was great for the Memorial Day Services this year. I always enjoy traveling with the members of the Kinkead-Martin Legion Post #583 while they perform their salute to honor the members of the United States Armed Forces who died in military service. Starting with Fairview United Methodist Church services, we travel to Bowers-Angus, Old Rippey and the Rippey Cemeteries. The church services at Fairview are always nice. I enjoy watching the Perry Scout Troup perform their flag duties. Of course the music is good and I never get tired of Brent Halling singing, Under God. I feel a connection to the Fairview area, as my Great-Grandparents are buried there.
Pictured at the Bowers-Angus Cemetery, Dan Brubaker, Dennis Ulrich, Mike Scharingson, Chris Kilmer, Bill Hamilton, Gary Schmidt, and Jon Savits presented the 21-gun salute at each of the four cemeteries. Geoff Roberts concluded the ceremonies at Bowers-Angus, Old Rippey and Rippey Cemeteries, by playing Taps. At Rippey, Chelsi Lawrence, Anita Rowe, Janice Johnston, presented the program before the Legion’s salute. Rev. John T. Williams gave the message at both Fairview and Rippey. A drum cadence, presented by Brogan Groves, was a nice touch at Rippey. DeAnn Sharingson laid the wreath at the monument in the Rippey Cemetery. Mary Weaver was thanked by the committee for the many years she served on the Memorial Day committee. The lunch at the church was well attended and friendships renewed.
