Charles Derry Receives Quilt Of Valor

Jeff Derry nominated his Father, Charles Derry, for a Quilt of Valor. The quilt  was completed by the Perry Piecemakers, and the wrapping was held on Saturday, June 6 at the Jefferson Elks Lodge.Chuck was recognized along with five others veterans.Several family members and Rippey friends attended the ceremony. 

Chuck served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1963. He received training as a tractor and wheel mechanic. While stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky for 18 months he served as a unit instructor.  He also served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was discharged as a Private First Class. Following his discharge, he returned to Rippey where he engaged in farming. He and his late wife Melba had two children, Jeff and Julie who were both able to be present along with other family members and friends.

Greene County veterans who have been honorably discharged from the military are eligible to be recognized with a quilt of valor. Applications are a simple one page sheet and are available at the Greene County Libraries, or the VFW Hall in Jefferson.
